Stay in the gate lodge of one of Suffolk’s oldest (and most intriguing) houses. This little lodge occupies the oldest part of the rambling 17th-century farmhouse, Thorington Hall, and retains much of it original character. The cottage has a rustic theme throughout including a living room with stone floors, exposed beams and a cosy log-burner and cobbled courtyard garden.
You can’t beat Thorington for a beautiful setting and there are walks straight from the front door. Nearby you can visit Sutton Hoo, an Anglo-Saxon royal burial site and one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. We’re currently working on a project to showcase the story of the site with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund. When you come to stay, the funds from your holiday go towards rewarding projects like this and essential conservation work at the places we look after.
Self-catering cottage holidays in the UK and Ireland can still be a green option. You can have the comforts of home and the flexibility to do what you want; when you want - without the hassles of air travel!
