Our location
We are based near the River Axe, not far from the borders of Somerset and Dorset, near Chard. That also puts us a convenient 10 miles from Lyme Regis and the attractions of the Jurassic Coast.
Everyone that stays with us is welcome to enjoy the walks, woodlands and tranquillity of Magdalen Farm. There’s no need to leave in the day if you want to relax and enjoy the countryside. However, if you do want to roam further afield it’s a lovely location.
The farmhouse is based at Magdalen Farm, a working organic farm and education centre offering environmental, field trip and care farming experiences. The farmhouse is the heart of the original farm that’s now been converted into a residential centre. Our aim is to be as sustainable as possible so we have recycling points around the farm, use a Biomass boiler for our heating, use a reed bed system for sewerage and a host of other facilities to make your stay as Green as possible.
The farmhouse facilities
We’ve kept as much of the character of the original farmhouse as possible. It has its own kitchen with a Rayburn, a lounge with log burner and dining room with open fire that seats 10. There is also a fully accessible bathroom with wheelchair access on the ground floor in addition to facilities upstairs. Being a farmhouse there is plenty of space for wellington boots and wet weather gear.
A total of six bedrooms offer a combination of double rooms, twin rooms and bunk beds. All look out over our attractive country cottage gardens. Groups can spend the evening relaxing in our courtyard and there’s even an outdoor fire and cob oven. No need to dial out for a pizza - you can bake your own!
There is a car park on the farm and all our pathways are fully accessible to the farmhouse and around the wider farm.
Self-catering cottage holidays in the UK and Ireland can still be a green option. You can have the comforts of home and the flexibility to do what you want; when you want - without the hassles of air travel!
