Wharf Barn is a newly-converted barn located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, within the Heart of England region. This charming accommodation, which sleeps six, is part of a collection of five barns situated in the tranquil northern part of the Attingham Park Estate, surrounded by 4,000 acres of picturesque park, farmland, and woodland. Originally built as a threshing barn in the late 1700s or early 1800s, Wharf Barn has been transformed into a light and comfortable living space, showcasing its unique character and charm.
The interior of Wharf Barn features a well-designed layout. Upon entering, guests are welcomed into an entrance hall that leads to a family bathroom and a double bedroom. The heart of the barn is the open-plan kitchen, dining, and sitting room area, which is enhanced by a woodburning stove, exposed beams, and a striking double-height window. Additionally, there is a second hallway that connects to a shower room and provides access to the back stairs, leading to another double bedroom on the first floor. A twin bedroom can be accessed via the front entrance hall stairs, accommodating families or groups comfortably.
Outside, the five barns share a beautifully maintained enclosed garden featuring a lawn, a firepit for barbecues, and a dining patio, perfect for enjoying the outdoors. Additional amenities include electric car charging points, a bicycle storage area, and a dog shower, catering to guests’ various needs. The estate offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including numerous walking and cycling routes, as well as waterways, with a canal leading from the estate to Berwick Wharf.
Guests at Wharf Barn enjoy complimentary access to the Attingham Park’s Regency Mansion, Walled Garden, and Field of Play, along with other National Trust properties in the vicinity during their opening hours. Visitors can also explore the parkland at any time during their stay. For those looking for refreshments or souvenirs, the Attingham’s Carriage House Café, Stables Shop, and a second-hand bookshop are open daily, providing a delightful experience for all guests.
