Laundry Cottage is part of a row of cottages in the Courtyard of Wallington, overlooked by the main house. Historically it was the laundry servicing the main house, and the flats above were staff housing. Guests staying at Laundry Cottage will be able to find engravings from Mary Trevelyan with dates of when she refurbished the cottages to improve standards for staff, upon inheriting Wallington.
Carrying on this fine tradition, we have recently refurbished the cottage to provide a comfortable stay at the heart of the property. With a garden at the front and back of the cottage that lead straight out on to the property it has never been easier to immerse yourself in all that Wallington has to offer.
Why not discover Wallington’s outdoor highlights which include walking trails, the family friendly Dragon cycle trail (with bike hire available), the walled garden and the West Wood play areas. Look out for wildlife too, from otters and native crayfish in the river to the red squirrels in the trees. Inside the Estate's house, don’t miss the dolls’ house room and quirky Cabinet of Curiosities.
You’ll find National Trust places Hadrian’s Wall, Lindisfarne Castle, Seaton Delaval Hall, Gibside and Cragside are all nearby.
One you have enjoyed Wallington to its fullest there are many other things for you to see and do. The beach at Seaton Sluice, close to National Trust Seaton Delaval Hall, is a haven for wildlife and a designated area of Special Nature Conservation.
Closer to home are Rothbury Village, Ponteland and Morpeth which both have a choice of restaurants, cafes, independent shops and beautiful walks.
Self-catering cottage holidays in the UK and Ireland can still be a green option. You can have the comforts of home and the flexibility to do what you want; when you want - without the hassles of air travel!
