Cosy Hebridean Cottage Overlooking The Atlantic On The West Coast Of North Uist

Isle Of North Uist, Outer Hebrides, Na h-Eileanan an Iar

2

Kettle Cottage, also known as "Taigh a Choire" in Gaelic, is a charming traditional croft house located in the Tigharry township on the Isle of North Uist in Scotland. Recently renovated in 2017, this cozy 1-bedroom cottage can accommodate up to 2 people and is pet-friendly, allowing for a maximum of 2 well-behaved dogs. The bedroom is spacious and can accommodate an additional folding bed for a child or cot if needed. The kitchen/living room features a log-burning stove and locally cut peat is provided for a relaxing evening by the fire after a day of exploring the island.

Situated in an elevated position, Kettle Cottage offers breathtaking views overlooking Hoglan Bay and the RSPB's Balranald Nature Reserve, located just 1 mile to the South. The Balranald Nature Reserve is a key attraction on the island, serving as a breeding ground for various ground-nesting birds such as Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Dunlin, and the elusive Corncrake. In the summer months, the machair is adorned with a vibrant display of machair flowers. The nearby natural arch and blow hole, known as the "Spouting Kettle" or "Slochd a Choire" in Gaelic, is a fascinating sight where sea water spouts into the air during Atlantic storms.

The headland where Kettle Cottage is situated offers a fantastic coastal walk route with uninterrupted views of the Monach Isles and the St Kilda World Heritage Site, located 46 miles to the West. Traigh Stìr or Hosta Beach, a renowned surfing spot, is just a short walk North from the cottage. This area of North Uist is a haven for birdwatchers year-round, with Lochmaddy Ferry Terminal, North Uist Distillery, Balranald RSPB Reserve, and a variety of outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, cycling, and mountain biking nearby. The secluded location of Kettle Cottage provides a perfect retreat to relax and soak in the wild Atlantic coastal scenery of the Isle of North Uist.
