The village was founded in 1888 by William Hesketh Lever to house workers from his soap factory, and features over 900 Grade II listed houses designed by 30 architects, set in 130 acres of parkland and gardens. Port Sunlight also boasts a neo-classical art gallery with Pre-Raphaelite paintings, a museum, tea rooms, and a pub, The Bridge Inn. The village has been a popular filming location for various TV shows and movies, including Peaky Blinders, Chariots of Fire, and the biopic of J.R.R. Tolkien.

The cottage is conveniently located within a 5-minute walk of two train stations with direct links to Liverpool and Chester city centers. The M53 motorway is also just 5 minutes away, and it is a short drive or train ride to Woodside for access to the Mersey Ferry to Liverpool. The Wirral region is surrounded by the River Mersey to the west, the River Dee to the east, and the Irish Sea to the north. It features 5 designated local nature reserves, including Bidston Moss, Dibbensdale, Heswall Dales, Hilbre Island, and Thurstaton Common, as well as Wirral Country Park, the first of its kind in Britain.
