Pretty in pink, this romantic retreat hides among the trees in the Dolmelynllyn estate of Snowdonia. Originally built as a 19th-century observatory, you can gaze upon the stars from its veranda as night falls. And when the sun rises, spectacular views across the valley unfold. Inside the timber cottage reveals a cosy little nook with a warming log-burner and sloping ceilings.
As you’ll be in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, you’ll have miles of walking trails straight from your doorstep. Nearby there’s a footpath to Rhaeadr Ddu, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Wales.
A little further afield, take a trip to see a ruined Cistercian Abbey, founded in 1198 by Maredudd ap Cynan, just four miles away from the cottage. Or head to Dolgellau where you can start the hiking trail for Cader Idris or cycle along the Mawddach Trail, a disused railway line.
Self-catering cottage holidays in the UK and Ireland can still be a green option. You can have the comforts of home and the flexibility to do what you want; when you want - without the hassles of air travel!
