The Old Smithy in Hay-on-Wye, Gwent, Wales, is an appealing family home that was once a village smithy. The house features traditional thick stone walls, oak beams, and flagstone floors, creating a comfortable and homely atmosphere. The property sleeps 6 and includes a lounge with an open fire, a well-equipped kitchen/diner, and three bedrooms upstairs. Outside, there is an acre of country garden with multiple seating areas, benches, and ample lawn space for children to play, all skirted by the River Honddu.

Abergavenny and its castle, shops, and restaurants are a 20-minute drive away, while the historic town of Hay on Wye, known for its independent second-hand book shops and gift stores, is just 30 minutes away. Other nearby attractions include the Cistercian Abbey in Llanthony Valley, the crooked church at Cymyoy, and the ancient Partrishow. Pony trekking in the National Park is available at Grange Trekking in Capel y Ffin from March to October. The owners of the Old Smithy live in the attached Forge but respect the privacy of guests, and there is a shop and pub within walking distance.

Guests at the Old Smithy can enjoy the cozy lounge with a piano, open fire, and selection of traditional games and books. The kitchen/diner has room for 6 and is equipped with an electric oven, hob, and microwave. The three bedrooms include a master double with a basin, a twin room, and a twin with 2ft 6 beds. Additionally, there is a family bathroom with a bath and WC, as well as an external shower room in a separate building accessed via the garden. Outside, there is outdoor furniture, a BBQ, and ample parking available. Bed linen, towels, electric, underfloor heating, and central heating are all included in the rental. Venture further afield to Crickhowell, Brecon, or Hereford, all within an hour's drive, for more exploration and adventure.
