The Bothy

This half-timbered house was built in 1908 at a time when the ‘garden cottage’ trend became popular. Its surroundings are overwhelmingly beautiful with Powis Castle in the background and its perfectly pruned gardens visible from the windows. Its interiors are nothing short of impressive either; in keeping with its refined Edwardian character, traditional furnishings run throughout while period fireplaces and intricate wood panelling have been carefully preserved. 

As a guest you’re invited to explore the mighty medieval castle and its celebrated garden, free of charge. With its amazing collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and tapestries, each with their own intriguing story to tell, you could spend more than a day delving into the history of this fascinating castle.  

Beyond life at the castle, why not explore the Montgomery Canal? This pretty stretch of water runs for 33 miles, with a 1.2 mile ramble, or a 9.2 mile towpath trail to explore. Also nearby are the Shropshire Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You’ll be just a 30 minutes’ drive to edges of this stunning area of countryside.
