Shippon Cottage is a charming 17th Century Manor House located in Ashburton, Devon, in the South West of England. The cottage sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms and is part of a walled courtyard shared by two other cottages, with its own private access and car parking facility. Previously a working farm, the 'Shippon' was where sheep were kept and fed, but has since been completely refurbished with a new kitchen and bathroom, as well as a lounge and two bedrooms - one double and one with twin single beds.
The location of Shippon Cottage is ideal for exploring the tourist sites of Devon and Cornwall, as it is close to the main A38 road leading to Plymouth and Cornwall. The town of Ashburton, known for its Antiques Trail and historical significance in the wool and mining industries, is within walking distance. Nearby attractions include a pub/restaurant at Furzeleigh Mill and the town of Buckfastleigh, home to the South Devon Steam Railway running to Totnes. Dartmoor National Park is a short drive away, while the beaches of South Devon are less than half an hour's drive from the cottage.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the property is being kept empty for 36 hours between each guest to minimize the risk of transmission. Located in Newton Abbot, the cottage is situated in a rural area, with nearby attractions such as Totnes Fashion & Textile Museum, Totnes Elizabethan House Museum, Coombestone Tor, and Buckland Abbey. For nature enthusiasts, activities such as game walks, birdwatching, and visits to Buckfast Butterfly Farm, Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary, and Pixieland are recommended. Shippon Cottage offers a peaceful retreat in a historic setting, with easy access to both cultural attractions and natural beauty in the South West of England.
