Rose Castle Cottage will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside with its pretty 19th-century charm and cosy interiors. The two-bedroom stone cottage sits alone in the landscape just above beauty spot Tarn Hows, with no neighbours in sight. Free of modern technology and carefully restored to retain its original character, it’s the perfect retreat to escape the trappings of modern day life. It’s the simplest things, like warming against the log-burner after a long day hiking, or waking up to views of green fields and mountains are what make this cottage so special.
Its setting at the heart of the Lakes makes it an ideal base for walking. Take the circular trail around Tarn Hows for majestic mountain views. You may even catch a glimpse of the rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. The paths from the cottage lead down to Monk Coniston jetty where you can pick up the elegant Steam Yacht Gondola for a nostalgic cruise on Coniston Water. This wonderful rebuilt Victorian yacht links up with a choice of trail routes from her jetties.
Tarn Hows is located in the low level hills between the villages of Coniston and Hawkshead. Restaurants, pubs, tea-rooms and shops can be found at Coniston and Hawkshead, while Ambleside is just a short drive away, when you need a break from the great outdoors.
