Sitting in an elevated position above the Northern Lakes, you’ll feel like King of the land in this castle.  It’s actually a former 18th-century carding mill, but nonetheless impressive. Also close by is the bustling small town of Keswick, just a 10-minute drive from here. Go a little further south to Derwent Water, also known as ‘Queen of the Lakes’. It’s nestled in the idyllic Borrowdale Valley. You can explore the islands on your own vessel or rent boats from hire centres around the lake.
