Retreat to this stylish, 1930s wooden bungalow for a week of calm next to the water’s edge. Its name is taken from its former owner, Powders Thurburn, a sailor and artist who settled here after years of adventuring the seas. You can see why he chose this romantic spot, amongst the whispering pine trees, where Frenchman's Creek meets the main Helford River. Inside the two-bedroom bungalow reveals a chic interior with wooden floors, a large double-bedroom and a modern kitchen area.
Its woodland garden provides impressive views over the glistening waters and a connecting path leads you down to a private quay. Walk across the headlands for the riverside pub and post office in Helford village. You can also hop onto the ferry from here for trips across the river.
The aqua-coloured waters of Kynance Cove and The Lizard are just a 30 minutes’ drive. Here you can hop onto the South West Coast Path for walks along the most southerly point of the UK.
Self-catering cottage holidays in the UK and Ireland can still be a green option. You can have the comforts of home and the flexibility to do what you want; when you want - without the hassles of air travel!
