The gorgeous Cornish countryside is right on your doorstep when you stay at Hayrick, with a network of local footpaths taking in creeks, cliffs, woodland and open country waiting to be explored. Or simply stay in and enjoy the stunning view from the comfortable sitting room.
Hayrick Cottage adjoins Fortescue and is on the site of the old farming settlement of Triggabrowne, restored after becoming derelict when they were no longer needed for farming. The tithe map of Triggabrowne from around 1840 shows a settlement consisting of a farm house, cattle yard and house, as well as a barn, rickyard and orchard. You can still see an orchard there today.
The stone cottage has a well equipped kitchen/diner and in the sitting room there’s a solid-fuel stove which makes for cosy evenings. On warmer evenings, you’ll enjoy making good use of the barbeque and the picnic table in the spacious shared gardens, where there’s plenty of room for games and fun.
Nearby you’ll find a cluster of other holiday cottages - Dairy Cottage, The Farm House and Tippets. A short walk away are two more cottages; Meadow Cottage and Triggabrowne Cottage, perfect if you’re holidaying in a group but still like your own space.
The stunning Lantic Bay is close with the descent down the footpath opening up breath-taking views, but you’ll need to be prepared for a steep climb back up afterwards. Polruan village is nearby with a couple of pubs, cafés and village shop. From here you can take the passenger ferry across to the bustling harbour town of Fowey and while away the hours. You can also cross over by ferry with your car at Bodinnick. Walkers will love the venturing out onto this section of the South West Coast Path too, with Lansallos in the west and Talland to the east.
Travel east and you’ll find the pretty fishing village of Polperro, with its jumble of white-washed cottages, and the busier seaside town of Looe with its family beach. Inland is historic Lanhydrock estate with its parks, house, gardens and cycle trails. The classic harbour at Charlestown is just beyond Fowey, perfect for an ice cream.
Staying at Hayrick you’ll be in the heart of miles of Cornish countryside and coastline managed by our ranger team. Your stay helps them to carry out valuable conservation work along this gorgeous stretch of coast and countryside.
