Surrounded by trees and immersed in tranquillity, sits this traditional, white-washed cottage. It was built in the early 19th-century as the mine office for Wheal Calstock, which later became the Danescombe Valley Mine. Now it’s one of the quietest and remote corners of the Cotehele estate, with the River Tamar nearby.
Take advantage of your position on the estate and head out along one of Cotehele’s many footpaths. Wander down to the Quay and discover Shamrock, the only surviving Tamar Barge.
Head further along the Tamar Valley and get active. The area has lots of opportunities for horse riding, cycling and kayaking. Or you could take a gentler approach and explore the area by train via the Tamar Valley Line from Plymouth to Gunnislake.
