Port Isaac, Cornwall

Port Gaverne, located in Cornwall's South West of England, is a homely destination known for its historical significance and as the filming location for the fictional village of Portwenn in the popular TV series Doc Martin. The cottage available for rent is part of the old Rashleigh Cellars, historically used by fishermen for storing gear and processing pilchards. It offers a cozy retreat that allows guests to explore the local area while enjoying a peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of tourist crowds.

The cottage is designed for convenience, featuring a single-level layout with three steps leading from the garden to the front door. Upon entering through the back door, guests find themselves in a well-equipped kitchen that connects to a small sitting room with a woodburning stove. The layout includes a double bedroom, a dining/reading room, and a shower room/WC, creating a functional flow that enhances the overall comfort of the space. Additionally, a secluded garden at the front provides a tranquil outdoor area, and there is an open car port at the back that accommodates one vehicle.

This location serves as an ideal base for walkers, with the South West Coast Path running directly through the village, offering breathtaking coastal walks in both directions. Just a short 500-yard walk leads to Port Gaverne beach, a picturesque cove perfect for exploring rock pools and enjoying sandy shores during low tide. The village features a local pub, and a half-mile stroll up the hill takes visitors to Port Isaac, which boasts additional dining options and art galleries, as well as the lively harbour known for hosting performances by the local shanty group, Fisherman’s Friends.

For those looking to venture further, the nearest town, Wadebridge, is approximately nine miles away and offers supermarkets alongside unique independent shops. The popular towns of Rock and Padstow are also within easy reach, with Padstow being particularly renowned for its culinary scene. Surfing enthusiasts can head to Polzeath beach, just five miles from the cottage, while the nearby Pentireglaze area offers stunning cliff-top walks around the ancient iron age fortress of Rumps. Additionally, Boscastle, a scenic fishing village located about 12 miles up the coast, is worth a visit for its beautiful riverside walks and National Trust café and shop.
