Stay in one of the England’s best preserved Tudor houses. With its intricate mullioned windows, arched doorways and stripped timber walls in the living area, Cotehele’s Hall Court has stacks of historic charm.

It’s a one-bedroom apartment that sits on the first floor of the main house, overlooking the grassed courtyard below. You’ll be in the midst of life at Cotehele, with gardeners and conservationists going about their daily duties and tourists flittering around the grounds. You’ll be able to come and go as you please, with free ‘out of hours’ access to the gardens, river and wider estate.

Further afield, The Tamar Valley, which meanders down from Launceston into the Plymouth Estuary, offers an abundance of walking, cycling and horse riding adventures. Or if you prefer to take in the views whilst relaxing, take the Tamar Valley Line from Plymouth the Gunnislake crossing the Calstock viaduct. For the nearest beaches, head to Portwrinkle and Seaton, which are only a 30 minute drive.
