Dyffryn Mymbyr Cottage

Betws-Y-Coed, Conwy

4

Make a break to this mountainside cottage for a week of rural escapism. Unlike other Snowdonia farm cottages, Dyffryn Mymbyr was the setting for the windswept tales of Thomas Firbank’s iconic biography, ‘I brought a Mountain’. It was here, on this rugged upland farm, he fled the norm for life as a farmer in this beautiful corner of Wales. The cottage has now been restored, but retains its rustic character with an inglenook fireplace, exposed beams and slate floors.

You’ll be at the heart of Snowdonia with views across the rugged Snowdon Horseshoe. Follow in Firbank’s footsteps and hike the surrounding peaks straight from your front door. Or for some stunning lake scenery pick up the Cwm Idwal walk for hikes around the glaciated lake.

Further afield, the town of Betws-y-Coed is just seven miles away. Enjoy the town’s eclectic mix of independent shops, traditional inns and cafés serving local Welsh produce. Or for the more adventurous you’ll also find Zip World, Bounce Below and Surf Snowdonia close by.
